I highly recommend you to please also install WooCommerce plugin (only if you want shop functionality on your website) and Revolution Slider plugin for NiceTheme theme to work correctly (See Woocommerce plugin installation/setup).

To avoid setup problems, please follow the steps in the order they are written.

NiceTheme is now compatible with WordPress v3.8

NiceTheme Installation

Here is the quick list of Installation steps explained below, please note that its important you follow these steps in the order they are written to avoid any problems with settings.

  1. Install Woocommerce plugin (only if you want shop functionality on your website)
  2. Install NiceTheme theme
  3. Install Recommended Plugins
  4. Import Json theme options backup file

These are the essential steps to install NiceTheme theme, however if you want to imitate demo website, that is explained below as well.

Woocommerce Installation

(If you do not want shop functionality, you can skip this step)

First, you should normally go to Plugins  click 'Add New' and put "woocommerce" in search term and follow instructions to successfully complete its installation. (Troubles? check this 1 minute video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXQbyg7eW5k)

After activating WooCommerce plugin, on the top you will see a purple bar (0.52 seconds in above video) which shows two option buttons. Normally, you should select to 'Install Woocommerce Pages' if you have just done a fresh new wordpress installation.

Installing NiceTheme Theme

There are two ways to install NiceTheme Theme

A) Using wordpress admin dashboard.

  1. Login to wordpress admin and go to Appearance.

  2. Click on 'Install Themes' on top.

  3. Click 'Upload' and click 'Choose File' button.

  4. Now, select your nicetheme.zip (which can be found in your downloaded zip archive, this is same zip which you get if you download "Installable wordpress theme"). (Note: Don't upload the whole zip archive you have downloaded!)

  5. Click 'Install Now' and wait for the success message.

  6. Then click 'Activate' and you will directly be taken to the theme's options page.

  7. From left menus, please select Theme Options -> Backup settings.

  8. Choose file 'Nicetheme-backup.json' found in <main-download>/Resources/import-data folder of your download and click 'Upload File and Import' button.
(Json file contains default settings backup that applies to your theme-options automatically, so that your site can be fully setup without following other manual setup steps... except logo change)

  9. You will see "Settings successfully imported. | Return to Theme Options"

  10. Go to 'Theme Options' and click 'Save Settings' again.

(Note: If you see a "missing stylesheet" problem, you are uploading the wrong zip file. Please unzip the package you downloaded from themeforest and upload nicetheme.zip (approx. 7MB))

B) Using FTP manual upload (Skip this step if you have done the above steps)

  1. First, unzip the downloaded zip archive you have received from Themeforest.net on your computer.

  2. Look for nicetheme.zip file inside it and extract that folder separately onto your computer. (Note: this is the folder which actually contains all required theme files. for e.g. style.css, screenshot.png, etc.)

  3. Open a FTP manager of your choice (e.g. Filezilla or CuteFTP)

  4. Navigate to your webserver's path where wordpress is installed and go inside /wp-content/themes.

  5. Unzip nicetheme.zip and upload the whole nicetheme 'folder' here directly.

  6. After successful completion of the folder's upload, go to WordPress admin dashboard and click on Appearance  Themes. You should now see 'NiceTheme' theme listed and its small thumbnail preview.

  7. Click on 'Activate' below and then you'll be directly taken to the theme's options page.

  8. Please follow Step 7,8,9 from the part (A) of above.

Plugins/Modules Installation

NiceTheme theme has been built with robustness in mind. It is true that not all people will need all the functionality.

So, instead of a website bloated with 100 feature that everyone won't need, some additional features are kept separate so that you can install only if you need them.

To make it easy, 1-click plugin installation module is integrated in the theme.

To install these plugins, Please go to Appearance  Install Plugins page, there you will find them listed and you can install them with 1 click.

Plugins already integrated inside Nicetheme (as of v1.x)

  1. Revolution Slider (Cool Slider plugin)
  2. Envato Toolkit Plugin (Updated official plugin from envato, provides 1-click updates to theme)

Note: Documentation for all of the above plugins is also included in documentation/other-documentation folder.

Demo Data Installation

To install demo/sample data, please go through these steps:

  1. Go to Tools  Import.

  2. Before clicking on 'Wordpress' you might see a popup here to install the wordpress importer plugin, so please install it.

  3. Choose the demo data XML file 'Nicetheme.YYYY-DD-MM.xml' found in your downloaded zip archive '...Resources/import-data'

  4. Click 'Upload File and Import' button. (See screenshot below)

  5. Upon successful upload, you will next be asked to 'Assign Authors', you can choose or leave it untouched.

  6. Tick the checkbox on for 'Download and import file attachments' and hit Submit.

  7. You might see some failed messages, but do not worry about them, on bottom of the page you should see "All done. Have fun!" smiley

Import wordpress xml

Note: You will not see homepage like demo website as of now, that steps comes below.

Menu Setup

To Setup menu, please go through these steps:

  1. Go to Appearance  Menus.

  2. You may see some imported menus after above step of importing demo data.

  3. Please select 'Primary Menu' and save.

  4. You can add, re-order, modify menus as per your choice. Please remember to always Save changes if you do any changes.

  5. If you are not seeing certain block on left side, for example Product Categories, please click on "Screen Options" on top right corner and select the needed and reload the page.

Note: Homepage setup like demo I will explain in further steps.

Megamenu

First, go to Appearance > Menus and click on Screen Options tab on top right of your screen. Under 'Show advanced menu properties' click checkbox on for 'CSS Classes'.

Start adding menu items now. Determine the main menu item which will serve as a main one having other sub-menu items under it. Drop down the arrow of the menu item. Add 'megamenu' in the metabox of 'CSS Classes (optional)'.

Now, when you add 3rd level sub items under the above one, you have to add 'heading' in CSS Classes (optional).

Click Save.

I have used and included Revolution slider http://codecanyon.net/item/slider-revolution-responsive-wordpress-plugin/2751380 (extended license included) with this theme because it is very powerful and at the same time really easy to use.

During the Installation of theme you should have already installed the revolution slider plugin.
If you haven't, please go to Appearance -> Install plugins to install/activate it.

Documentation from plugin author is included in Documentation/other-documentation folder together this file.

Basically, this slider provides a shortcode once you create a slider. See the below screenshot:

revslider-shortcode

You just need to paste that shortcode as it is in: Theme-Options → Slider & Header Settings → Slider Settings → Slider area content

Note: Do not forget to check 'enable slider' setting found on this same page.

For more info on Revolution slider, please check Revolution Slider tab on left.

Unique Slider

After v2.3 of NiceTheme we have built in a unique slider inside Theme Options itself. To access it, go to Theme Options > Slider & Headline > Slider Settings > Enable Built-in Image Slider. You will see options to setup 6 slides for this slider. Of course, you can use as many as you want and leave rest blank.

Demo can be seen here.

Note: If this slider is 'enabled' then Revolution Slider will not work.

Here you can choose to show either a Custom Logo or Text Title in your header. (choose only one)

Go to Theme Options  Quick Start and choose at lease one of them.

For Custom Logo, you have to upload and insert the image path to display logo.

Text Title allows you to enable text-based site title and tagline.

Note: If your logo looks misplaced , you can set its positioning by putting values in Logo Offset found just below Custom Logo field.

js-customlogo-text-title

(Note: the Site Title and Tagline will be coming from Settings > General.)

Hit 'Save All Changes' (main button in top-right) when you are satisfied and then check out.

In this step, we see how to setup some homepage which comprises of few blocks. They are explained briefly in below image.

Also please check out http://support.templatation.com/support/solutions/152256 for specific homepage creation instructions and code.

The blocks of homepage can be enabled/disabled by going to Theme-options → Homepage  Homepage Setup,

Also the particular block can be further controlled by going to Theme-options  Homepage  Homepage Setup.

Please note there is also a new widget area called 'Homepage' in the Appearance  Widgets. When you place widgets in this section, it replaces "Product category" section of homepage (first below the slider) and shows these widgets instead.

Steps to Create homepage

Tip: A blank homepage template is also now added in case you want to craft your own homepage using pagebuilder.
Be informed that you can activate default 'content' on homepage, and the content you enter on the page template editor box will appear on bottom of homepage. (By-default 'content area' is turned off)

Also please check out http://support.templatation.com/support/solutions/152256 for specific homepage creation instructions and code.

Widescreen mode allows you to have a fluid layout. By default the theme has 'boxed' layout having 1000px fixed width(see screenshot below). You Can find this setting in Theme Options > General Settings > Quick Start

If you enable widescreen mode, the main container with white background will flow to full width available horizontally. Content will still be inside 1000px width but only background will be full width. (see screenshot below)

Global Headline Height

This setting provides flexible height adjustment based on the content you put in the Headline section. If you increase the height, the more the background image becomes visible and vice versa.

To apply the setting globally to whole theme, you can find setting in Theme Options > Slider & Headline > Headline Options > Global Headline Height. You can also change it for individual page whenever needed.

Please read the description given beside it as it will explain it in further detail.

See an example of it here

Global Main Heading Top Padding

This setting is in relation to the above section "Global Headline Height", where if have you specified minimum height, you may need to push the main headline a bit below, so that it vertically aligns to middle portion of the section.

Note: You can have breadcrumbs disabled also. Find its setting in Theme Options > General Settings > Display Options > Display Breadcrumbs

Setting up Portfolio page comprises 2 parts.

A) First  to create Portfolio Items.
B) Second  to setting up a page to display those Portfolio Items.

A) NiceTheme theme has custom post type for Portfolio. Just go to Portfolio  Add new and add your entries there for each of your item. See the screenshot beow

B) In order to setup a Portfolio page, you need to create a page and choose 'Portfolio' as its name. (You can of course give it your own name).

Then we need to choose your required 'Page Template' for this newly created page. You can do it by right bottom section of Page editor box.

You will find 3 Page templates related to portfolio.
  1. Portfolio One col
  2. Portfolio Two col
  3. Portfolio Three col

As the names explain, the only difference in above page templates are the sizes of columns for the portfolio page. You can choose the columns of template that suits to your requirements.

Once you setup the page (Step B), it will list all the Portfolio single items created in Step A with their categories as headings which when clicked, sorts the items with smooth animation.

Testimonials are Custom Post Types in NiceTheme.

NiceTheme theme has custom post types for Testimonials.

Go to Testimonials  Add new and add your entries there for each of your testimonial item.

On the testimonial editor page, you will find options to enter Gravatar email address (If you enter this, thumbnail for this client will be fetched from his gravatar, if not, you can upload a custom thumbnail from Featured image section just on right side of this Gravatar field) , Byline (Post of the client ie: CEO of Blah..) and URL (URL of clients site).

>

You can use widget to show testimonial on front end. There is a widget called NT-testimonials for this.
